Can You Drink with Invisalign?

Are you wondering, “Can you drink with Invisalign?” As long as you are of legal age, then yes, you can drink alcohol with Invisalign. First, be sure to take out your aligners. Also, the same applies to other drinks, meals, or snacks.

One of the best parts of Invisalign treatment is the aligners are removable when you eat, drink, or brush. For this reason, you have more freedom to eat your favorite foods throughout Invisalign treatment. For those with braces, it’s necessary to avoid hard, sticky items that can damage the wires and brackets.

On the other hand, Invisalign is more sensitive to heat. If aligners are exposed to hot liquids or environments, they can warp. Thus, you wouldn’t want to drink hot coffee with your aligners in place. Also, one must avoid washing them in hot water or leaving them where they can get hot, such as in a car.

Can You Drink with Invisalign?

Yes, those of legal age may enjoy alcohol with Invisalign, as long as you take out your aligners. Why? Any liquid or food item can become trapped between your teeth and the aligners. Then, it encourages the growth of bacteria which promotes tooth decay.

One exception: When you are drinking cool water, you can leave your aligners in place. If possible, try to choose water that is more alkaline than acidic. However, if you don’t have a choice, it’s best to choose to stay hydrated. Those who drink mostly bottled water may also not benefit from the fluoride found in tap water.

Also, staining beverages like red wine can tint your aligners with an unsightly pink hue. Then, you won’t enjoy the benefit of having a discreet treatment until it’s time to switch to your next set of aligners (Usually after at least a week).

Below, we share a tip about drinking with a straw.

A Note on Sugary Drinks

In general, it’s always a good idea to limit sugary foods and drinks, which promote tooth decay. Limiting sugar remains a good idea with Invisalign or braces. During this time, it’s particularly important to maintain your oral health. By doing so, you can avoid tooth decay and keep your treatment on schedule.

Here are some sugary drinks to limit with Invisalign or braces:

  • Sodas (including diet)
  • Flavored water
  • Sports drinks
  • Fruit drinks
  • Energy drinks

Benefits of a Healthy and Confident Smile

With the world wearing masks due to COVID-19, your smile may be the last thing on your mind. But this is the perfect time to learn about the benefits of a healthy and confident smile. The best part is that no matter what orthodontic treatment you select, no one will know you’re wearing braces under your mask!

The Benefits of a Healthy and Confident Smile

Although having a healthy smile may seem like a lot of work with few benefits, that assumption is completely wrong. The simple act of daily brushing and flossing and a good oral healthcare routine has many benefits. First and foremost, our teeth are instrumental in chewing food. Healthy teeth chew more efficiently, which aids digestion. In fact, good oral health can help you achieve life-changing benefits.

Among the most common benefits of a good oral health routine are:

  • Less tooth decay and gum disease (which means less pain, less tooth loss, and other benefits)
  • Keeps oral bacteria from entering the bloodstream and causing health problems
  • Reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes
  • Can aid in reducing the risk of some cancers
  • May reduce the risk of dementia (especially in women)
  • Less risk of halitosis (bad breath)

By maintaining a healthy smile, you create a confident mindset, which can influence your career, social life, and even relationships. By transforming your smile, you will feel more confident in all areas of your life. Additionally, maintaining a healthy mouth will increase whole-body health.
